We get asked loads of questions about The Salted Pig Salumeria as our business is unique, we do not cater, instead with showcase our salumi with 'cure-ated' centrepieces of food. Here's a list of questions we are often asked.... 


What is Salumi? Salumi is the Italian word for all salted and cured meats. You’ll only ever see traditional and free-range salumi in what we do that’s made by hand, not machine, the way Italians intended it to be. We are hands-on with our salumiere who stay true to tradition and handpick only the best ingredients. Guanciale, Coppa, Spalla, Lardo, Lonza, Pancetta, Prosciutto, Salami...are known as 'The Big Eight'.

What is a salumeria? (Sah-loo-meh-ree-ah) Like a delicatessen, it’s a shop that specialises in salumi Salumi (sah-loo-me) Italian for all salted, cured meats. Watch this space for our shop in Sydney coming soon.

What is a purveyor? It has many meanings beginning with someone who sells a particular type of goods; a person or group who promotes a way of life, an idea, a view… We are not about just selling ‘a product’ we want you taste traditional food that tastes trace back to a time when food was celebrated and central to life, when it would take a whole day to make your passata, months to cure meat, years to preserve cheeses, when family and friends made and ate food together, when you knew your butchers name and he would know his farmer’s name…We want to keep these traditions alive, even if used in new ways!

What is a grazing table? All our food is about grazing, to pair your favourite foods and even better, pair with new foods you have never tasted together. For our own occasions we ‘cure-ate’ a grazing station with enough food for our guests to eat as a antipasti, main meal and dessert in one. Other clients love our table as an antipasti-style so their guests can casually graze accompanied with an apertivo style of drinks, or even with their own main meal. Grazing tables are so versatile and relaxed, living on the coast and this casual way eating, is all about gathering around a centerpiece of food, sitting or standing, and eating as much, or as little of what you want.

How much does delivery cost? If your event is in Malabar and close proximity delivery is free. If approximately within 10km radius of Malabar delivery is $15 for our Salumi Crates and Salumi Boxes and pick-up of the Salumi Crate the following day is $15. If your event is approximately over 10km radius of Malabar delivery is $30 for our Salumi Crates and Salumi Boxes and pick-up of the Salumi Crate the following day is $30.

How do we book and pay? First we need to find out how much you want to feed your guests and the date and time of your event. You can do that by emailing us through our website, Facebook or if you love to chat in person call 0419 229 114. Once we confirm your date, you can pay either through our website’s shopping cart with your credit card or we can send an invoice and transfer payment electronically. Once you’ve paid your order is confirmed.

What is the $50 refundable deposit for your Salumi Crates and Grazing Tables props? Almost everything you see is handmade and we want you to have the best-of-the-best to show your guests your gratitude. We use imported cheese knifes, crystal bowls, up-cycled boxes, handmade crates…basically this refundable $50 is to ensure care of our props and the return of them the following day. In this we also request all our props are rinsed so they are clean for transport when we pick-up the next day. If you require us to clean its starts from $15, so please let us know in advance. We will remind you this before pick-up, we understand there is a lot to remember when organizing an event, as the $15 will be deducted from the $50 deposit as explained in our terms and conditions.

What if we need to cancel? We want everyone to taste our food so if you need to cancel all you have to do is let us know 48 hours before your event for Salumi Boxes and Salumi Crates and for our Grazing Tables a week before. We can then exchange for another date and time. However if our prices change we require you to pay the difference. We will let you know in advance.
